PSN Plus and Xbox Games With Gold Both Offer Solid Lineups in July

It’s hard to believe half of 2016 will be over in a matter of days, but a new month means a new lineup of incentive titles for Playstation and Xbox subscribers. And if I do say so myself, both are giving up some pretty rad games.

As always, Xbox One owners will have access to four games — two on Xbox One, along with two backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles.

Both Xbox One titles are brand new, with The Banner Saga 2 running the entire month of July and Tumblestone becoming available on July 16th through August 15th. The Banner Saga 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed strategy RPG of the same name (sans the 2, of course), though no prior knowledge of the original game is needed to play it. Tumblestone appears to be a local multi-player puzzle game. Both titles are self-published through the ID@Xbox program.

Xbox 360 (and Xbox One) subscribers will have access to Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and Tron: Evolution.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is pretty fun, but The Banner Saga 2 is what I’m looking forward to the most. It sucks that I own the original on PS4, not Xbox One, but hey, I pay for Xbox Live Gold and I’ll happily take advantage of the deal. My gaming OCD can get over it.

On the Playstation front, PS4 owners will have access to the brand new 3D boss-rush bullethell slasher/shooter Furi, the Saints Row IV standalone Gat Out of Hell, and receive early access to the Paragon beta. Yes, early access to a F2P MOBA, but that’s not all.

As an added bonus, PSN Plus subscribers will receive a free Paragon Starter Pack, which retails for $40. In it you’ll find Master Challenges for heroes Gadget, Murdock, and Rampage, rewarding skins, XP boosts, emotes, deck slots, and more.

PS3 owners will receive Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, along with Fat Princess. Vita owners are once gain given one Vita title and one from the PSP library. This is a trend I’d like to see dead and buried as soon as possible. The Vita has a big library, especially digital titles, so please stop digging up the PSP’s corpse. It’s lazy and uninteresting.

Vita owners will have access to the weirdly interesting RPG Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, along with the PSP’s Prince of Persia: Revelation. Oreshika is similar to Massive Chalice, where you build a party by having children and raising them as warriors. Neat little RPG that goes on sale every so often for $5 or so, but now it’s free if you’ve passed on it until this point.

Overall, I’m excited by both lineups. I love RPGs, so getting The Banner Saga 2 is a huge win. Oreshika is as well, but I already own it (thanks to the recommendation of The Buttonsmasher’s Qudduws). Furi also looks right up my alley, with its vibrant, neon color scheme and pulse pounding electronica soundtrack.

What do you think?
