PlayStation Plus August Lineup Confirmed

With Xbox confirming their list of Xbox Live Gold incentive titles a couple of days ago, it was only a matter of time until Sony followed suit. We’re only 3 days away from August 1st, after all!

PS4 owners will receive the multi-player Tetris parody Tricky Towers, in which up to 4 players compete to stack tetrominoes up to a given point, rather than focus on destroying lines.

The competitive puzzler supports both local and online multi-player across a handful of different game modes. If you’re looking to kill some time on your own, Tricky Towers also offers an offline single-player feature with increasingly difficult skill trials to complete.

Also up for grabs on PS4 is the space-combat RPG Rebel Galaxy, which looks promising. If the gameplay trailer is anything to go by, there’ll be tons of dogfights, alien races to converse and trade with, an actual narrative to follow, and, of course, ship building.

Rebel Galaxy flew under my radar last year, but I do love me a good sci-fi RPG. Definitely checking this one out.

On the PS3 front, subscribers can download last year’s cult hit Yakuza 5. With Yakuza 0 getting an official North American release date, August might be the best time to catch up with Sega’s action packed open-world beat ’em up series.

Reverse rhythm game Retro/Grade is also up for grabs, which I had a lot of fun with. In this one you actually play a 2D shoot-em-up in reverse in order to undo the “battles that destroyed the universe.” Using button-pressing rhythm mechanics, you’ll start at the end and work your way back to where it all started.

On an interesting note, Retro/Grade’s developer Matt Gilgenbach went on to develop the hand-drawn psychological horror game Neverending Nightmares, which released earlier this year on PS4 and Vita.

Vita owners once again receive a PSP title in place of something more modern, with rhythm game Patapon 3. Fans of retro-inspired games may enjoy the twin-stick arcade shooter Ultratron, which acts as August’s only true Vita offering.

It’s worth noting that Ultratron supports cross-buy between PS Vita, PS4, and PS3, so subscribers will be able to check it out regardless of console.

    1. I feel the same way about the Xbox lineup. I picked up WWE 2K16 and its season pass for $35 during a sale in May, haven’t touched it, and now the core game is going free next month.

    1. Yeah, screen shots didn’t do it for me with Tricky Towers but the video made it look somewhat interesting.

Thankfully I still have my PS3 hooked up because I ordered the wrong version of Heavy Rain from GameFly earlier this month lol. Guess I’ll keep her hooked up for Yakuza 5.
