Announced way back at E3 2013 during Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal event, Capybara Games’ pixely rogue-like Below has been seemingly stuck in delay hell ever since. Prior to today’s announcement, Below was scheduled to release at some point during the summer season, but now the game has been delayed indefinitely.
In an industry where delays are commonplace, it’s more disappointing to consumers when they’re given an ever-changing series of release dates. To that point, I commend the folks at Capybara Games for taking the indefinite approach instead.
“Instead of giving you a new, loose release window, we will be going dark while we take the time that we need to complete BELOW without compromise,” states the official blog post. “The next time you see a major BELOW update, that means our game has a firm release date, which we’ll share.”
I’d much rather know when a game is ready than be strung along.
Is now a good time to take bets on whether we’ll see Below or Cuphead release first? I kid, I kid. Take all the time you need, folks. It’ll be a better game for it, and then everybody wins.
