Christmas Wrap-up

Now that things are finally starting to settle down and Christmas is over, I thought I’d share some of the neat stuff I was given. Sure, the holiday is all about spending time with friends or family and that’s what’s most important, but that doesn’t always make for an interesting blog post!

An NES cart replica blanket of The Legend of Zelda, given to me by my girlfriend. So soft!
A Nintendo Power poster of Super Metroid, given to me by my girlfriend.

And finally, I treated myself to snake bite piercings. I've wanted them done since high school, so Merry Christmas to me, from me.

I’ve been rearranging our office and turning it in to a game room, so I was beyond excited to get all of the nerdy Nintendo stuff from my girlfriend to help spruce up the place! She knows exactly what I like and never ceases to amaze me with the rad stuff she comes up with for Christmas.

I did most of my own game shopping for Christmas during Black Friday, picking up Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse (3DS), Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS), Dragon Quest Builders (PS4), Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection (PS4), XCOM 2 (PS4), Dead Rising 4 (XB1), Attack on Titan (PS4), Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4), Dishonored 2 (PS4), Ratchet & Clank (PS4), and Watch Dogs 2 (PS4) for around $300.

This is mainly why I try not to buy anything at launch, since plenty of newer releases plummet in price near the holiday.

What about you folks? Grab anything neat?

  1. I bought myself a new curling iron and after new year we’re going to bring a kitty home. Game wise I’m so excite about ME Andromeda coming out in March(?), so I’m saving myself for that. :)

  2. Awesome Metroid figure and that blanket is a clever idea. I had really neglected the digital space this year trying to hold off until some of those games hit sales and I grabbed a bunch of those through the PSN sales these past couple weeks (Inside, Oxenfree and a handful of others). Those should keep me busy for a bit.

    1. Inside and Oxenfree are both incredible games. I try not to buy anything at launch and instead wait to rake in on PSN deals, like you did. Definitely pays off. The rarity this year was Final Fantasy XV, since I had already waited 10 years >.>.

And yeah, thanks, I definitely love the Metroid figure and was surprised I’d never thought of the blanket idea myself, haha.

  3. Looks like Santa was very kind to you. I love the Zelda cartridge blanket and the creepy Metroid. I wanted some piercings in High School, but I was never brave enough to go through with it, haha. I don’t even have my ears pierced like most women do. Oh well.
Enjoy all of your shiny new toys! :)

    1. My girlfriend knows I love Zelda, Metroid, and Friday the 13th on NES, and that I rarely buy myself anything lol, so Christmas is open season.

What DLC did you pick up? I want to see what the FFXV DLC looks like before grabbing the season pass.

      1. My wife got me the season pass for Star Wars Battlefront. I’ve been curious about it, but never got around to buying it so that gave me a good reason to reinstall the game on my PC.

I finally got the Fallout 4 season pass, and she signed me up for Origin’s version of EA Access. I’m really looking forward to playing Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2, and a few other titles on there.

        1. My GF subs to Origin Access or whatever the PC version is called. Lots of great stuff on offer there. I tried Mirror’s Edge Catalyst on XB1 and wasn’t very impressed. The original on 360/PS3 was never my cup of tea though, and I would never have tried it had it not been for my EA Access sub.

How are you liking the FO4 season pass? Hearing mixed things about the content, at least in comparison to how good the DLC for FO3 and NV was.

          1. I honestly haven’t tried it yet. I started over with a brand new character so it’s going to be some time before I get to the DLC.

I’ve heard the opposite on the season pass for FO4. The Steam reviews are outstanding and I hear nothing, but great things about Far Harbor. I don’t like that most of the DLCs are for settle building though :(. I wanted more DLCs like the ones we got in FO3. Not a big New Vegas fan.

              1. I don’t mind the settlement building. I just wish we had more expansions like Far Harbor. We got some new areas with Nuka World, but I’m used to my Fallout games having about 5 or 6 expansions and not just two. I love Fallout 4 though so it’s no big deal to me. What I have right now is fantastic and I’m pushing my 200 hour mark.

  4. Ah I’m so super jealous of all the awesome Zelda gifts! I may pick up that Hyrule Hystoria with my Barnes and Noble gift card (hopefully they’ll have it online if not in store) and whoa that’s a big metroid! I wouldn’t put it too close or it’ll suck out all of your life energy D: I really hope they don’t make Mother Brain figurines *shudders and looks around* I hope the lip piercings are healing up well! They look really good. I recall you talking about how drinking OJ was quite torturous on Twitter :p

    1. YES! Anything with acids in it burns soooo baddddd. They’re healing nicely though!

The Historia is a really great book. Tons and tons of concept art, lore, factoids, etc. If you love the game world, it’s totally worth it (even as just a coffee table book).

I *just* picked up a mini version of the same Metroid figure last night at Walmart for $4. Much excite!

      1. Ouch! No pizza and orange juice for you 😋

I’m totally getting it then. I love the world of Hyrule, and would read it cover to cover. Last reference book I had was (literally) The World of Ice and Fire, so if just be continuing my fantasy world streak.
