It’s no secret that Friday the 13th: The Game had a rocky launch, mostly due to server issues. The folks at Illfonic and Gun Media would like to apologize to fans of the multiplayer/co-op hybrid in the absolute best way possible — by adding the NES version of Jason Voorhees as a playable skin.
If you know me, you know how obsessed I am with Friday the 13th on NES. I love it. I have toys, avatars, and plan on getting a tattoo of our purple and blue “hero” in the near future. When Friday the 13th: The Game was announced, all I ever wanted was to play as the NES version of Jason and see Part V’s Demon as a playable counselor. On June 20th, half of that becomes a reality.
In addition to the NES Jason skin and accompanied chiptune soundtrack by Mitch Murder, the following will be dropped in-game as a free update:
- Two new outfits for each counselor
- 13,000 free CP to spend
- Double XP from June 23rd-25th
As a huge fan of all things Friday the 13th, but not big on multiplayer games, Friday the 13th: The Game has been a hard sell. There’s talks are adding a single-player experience down the road and I know that’s when I’ll likely bite, but part of me wants to support the game for merely existing.
Have you delved into the multiplayer mayhem of Friday the 13th: The Game yet?
I understand that dilemma. I can support a game that I know I’ll never play, but it would be nice if they offered a single player experience.

Yeah, and that’s $40 I could spend elsewhere.
