Friday! Video games! Let’s talk!
First off, I’d like to cheaply plug my latest review for Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country, which went up early this morning over at The Well-Red Mage.
I’ve been a fan of their site for a while now and have worked with Red in the past on interviews and Top 10 List type stuff, but now I’ve officially joined their merry band of adventurers. I look forward to publishing most of my reviews over there going forward, but I do still have a few lined up that will appear here instead (since there’s no reason for duplicates over there).
On the games front, I’ve gotten back into Octopath Traveler and finally finished my first Chapter 2 (Cyrus). I found a video on YouTube that suggested a good grinding spot and I spent most of the week out there getting my primary squad of four up to level 40 — being Cyrus, Ophelia, Olberic, and Therion.
As for subclasses, I put Merchant on Cyrus to give him wind magic and a hard-hitting Divine spell. Ophelia took up Dancer for dark magic and a slew of buffs. Olberic now has Apothecary for poisons, self-heals, a +500 HP bonus, and one of the hardest hitting axe skills in the game. And finally, Therion has Hunter for more weapon variety and is now a breaking machine. It’s working great so far.
I’ll be spending my free time this weekend working my way through a few more 2nd chapters and leveling up the Travelers I’ve been ignoring.
My copy of The World Ends With You arrived this evening, but I’m not in a hurry to jump in. I just wanted to support the game’s launch. I have some Switch stuff I’d like to get to in the meantime anyway, being God Wars Complete, Hyper Light Drifter, Labyrinth of Refrain: Dark Coven, The Lost Child, and Yomawari: The Long Night Collection. I also have Disgaea 1 Complete for the PS4, which is one of the reviews that’ll go up here at Cheap Boss Attack instead of The Well-Red Mage.
What about you, folks? Any gaming plans this weekend?
The toughest game there is. Adventures in Adulting. Our first challenge is food shopping for my elderly in-laws. Followed by some house cleaning for them, ripping up their carpet and painting.

I always wanted to play The World Ends With You, so I’ll surely get that some time in the future. I’m playing Shenmue and Shenmue 2 for the next couple of weeks I think, with some Forza Horizon 4 in between. There are a lot of games coming in the next month or so that I’m very interested in though.

Of course this month is all about Hallowe’en! Hopefully I’ll be playing some spooky games with my boyfriend so I can put together a post in the next few weeks. I bought Yomawari: Night Alone on Steam a few months ago so I’m hoping to get into that this week too.

I’m still re-working my way through the Myst series. I made it to the beginning of the fourth during the week so with a little bit of luck, I might finish it by the end of the weekend if I hit it hard!

Congratulations on your magehood level up! It’s good to see that site collecting more awesome people :)
You pretty much set up your secondary jobs like I did except for Therion. I don’t know why I never made him a Hunter class. I usually have him as either a Merchant so he can steal either goods or money, of he’s my Cleric. Olberic as the Apothecary is such a good move because it gives him a way to heal in his challenge battles, plus that Amputate is freaking murder.
Is it the Carrion Caves? That’s where I ended up for leveling early on. I’m past the end game now and trying to level for the hardest special shrine fight yet. The boss uses all physical attacks and wrecked me three times.

Thanks!
Therion as Hunter gives him great stat scaling and lots of weapons to break with. It’s very nice.
Nah, it’s a town way in the Northeast… Gold…something? It’s a 45 area but the game always spawns the same enemy group as the first encounter when you enter and leave the city. They’re weak to arrows, spears, and wind, so they can be broken super fast and destroyed with a beefed up Cyrus. You gain about a level per fight until the 30s and they can sometimes spawn big caits that give TONS of XP.

I like when characters have a variety of weapons. I’ve put Hunter on Olberic for the same thing because it gives him the Ax and the Bow.
Ah Goldshore! Oh really?? I didn’t know that. I’ve run into those fat caits, but I have to take the enemy by surprise because if they get a turn they always run away. It takes about three soul stones to take them down.

If you use Dark Ward you never get a surprise attack, which helps a ton.

It really does. I like that and the ability that gives you the higher chance at acting first. If you get an Allure Ribbon that’ll raise your chances of getting into battle, which is really useful when you’re trying to level.

I’m determined to finish this damn game before the end of the year lol. This my 2018 Persona 5, because that game kept getting put aside last year for other projects and I barely finished it in time before the end of the year.

I was hoping to get through FFVI before year end, but I don’t it’s going to occur. I should finish Octopath but I have a LOT more FFVI to go through. I’m not even in the World of Ruin yet D:

It’s hard to juggle 2 rpgs!

I always end up putting one on the back burner! I’ve played a bunch of cute little demos on the Switch lately, though. That’s one of the things I like about it. It has the ability to have little word/puzzle games on it and they’re usually not that expensive. When I do my next Gamer status I’ll talk about them. I wish every game came with a demo lol.

A demo can go a long way, yeah? I wish more games had them, but it seems to be a growing trend on the Switch — at least among the RPG stuff.

It’s a smart business model. I’m much more likely and much more likely to quickly buy a game that I’ve already played and have a feel for. It’s a good hook.
