Friday! Video games! Let’s talk!
I have a few reviews I’ll be writing up this weekend, namely Home Sweet Home and Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk. I just published one for Disgaea 1 Complete earlier today, which felt nice. I haven’t been writing a lot lately due to illness and genuinely being busy outside of gaming, but it’s good to be back in the saddle a bit.
My girlfriend and I started our 2nd playthrough of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PS4, which is one of our favorite games to play together. We originally went through the game on Xbox One before any of the DLC released, but ended up buying the Game of the Year edition on PS4 while it as on sale. There are definitely worse ways to spend 150+ hours, yeah?
We’re still questing and exploring around Velen, having just rescued Dandelion after enlisting the help of the doppler Dudu and the bard Priscilla. This game is full of amazing characters, stellar writing, and brilliantly designed open worlds that are easy to get lost in for hours at a time. I can’t wait to finally get around to the DLC campaigns.
Otherwise, there hasn’t been much going on here. I did pick up the entire Final Fantasy XIII trilogy on Xbox 360 for $15. Now that it’s backwards compatible on Xbox One I wanted to have it available on a console I actually have plugged in. I hear it looks incredible in 4K on the Xbox One X, which I don’t have, but I’m sure it’ll be an improvement over the original PS3 and 360 versions. I really love Final Fantasy XIII and I’ve wanted to jump into XIII-2 and Lightning Returns for a while now.
My girlfriend also wants to check out the Mass Effect trilogy, which she hasn’t played before. We grabbed all 3 games for $12 at GameStop (boo hiss) to play through on the Xbox One. I think that’s where my DLC is for the 2nd game, but I think I’ll have to repurchase all of the DLC for Mass Effect 3 whenever we get around to it.
Once these last few reviews are out of the way I need to buckle down and finish Octopath Traveler and at least *start* Dragon Quest XI. It’s almost Game of the Year season, after all.

Cheap Boss Attack 
My goal is first and foremost to finish Grim Dawn. I love it, but I’ve been casually playing it off and on and have decided that I want to wrap it up so I can focus on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (which, at this rate, I’ll finish in 2021) and the Spyro remakes.

Odyssey seems significantly longer than Origins did. I guess that’s good if the content is fun. I want to check out the Spyro remakes at some point. I liked the first game a lot and then fell out of love with 3D mascot platformers. Enjoyed revisiting Crash, though.

Hey guys! I was looking for an awesome blog post about video games and my search has led me here. I’ve also visited Hannie’s and her posts were entertaining and very useful as well.
And indeed this is an awesome post Trash // the Middle-aged Horror Mage. What a long name. Anyway, Yeah, I love The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game too. Regarding Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the game has more mechanics and feels more fluent. This is proof of Ubisoft learning from Assassin’s Creed Origins. For me, both AC games are magnificent but Odyssey kicks it up the notch.

I keep hearing Odyssey improves on Origins’ formula in every way so I’m excited to eventually dive in!

I’m convinced that nightmare is the proper difficulty to play this game on. May take 100’s if hours to complete but the battles just seem right. Assassinations are still 1 hit except on ‘crown’ enemies, cult bosses are difficult at first but doable once you figure out which weapon works best, ship battles on crown ships are formidable so require necessary upgrades (as they should). Just puts the whole game back on a challenge that makes every success feel earned.

I’m a monster and bought Diablo 3 for the third time. I can’t help myself when it’s on Switch though! I need that portable demon slaying action!

Diablo 3 is so good. I have 200+ hours on both the Xbox One and PS4 versions and still want to grab it on Switch. The only downside is I’ve always played with my GF and we each have our own XB1/PS4, but only 1 Switch. Always couch co-op, I suppose.

I haven’t tried the local co op on Switch yet, but I’m curious how well it’ll work in portable mode. I think the screen might be a bit too small.

You definitely can’t go wrong with replaying The Witcher 3. I’ve played through it about 5 times now. Each playthrough clocking in at around 150 hours with the DLC completed. I also bought it on PS4 so i could enjoy it on my TV, but I haven’t played it seriously yet.
I’ll be on Let’s Go Eevee this weekend. I’ve been playing it since last night and I have a love/hate relationship with it so far. It’s definitely getting better as I get closer to my third badge though. Or maybe I’m just ignoring all of the flaws so I can get some enjoyment out of it :).
Dragon Quest 11 is great. The soundtrack isn’t and never matches what’s going on in game, but that’s the only weak thing about the game. I need to finish it. I do have about 40 hours in it so far though.
Project Octopath is great too. And you just reminded me that I still need to finish that game.

I keep holding off on Let’s Go! because I want a more traditional Pokemon game and I’m okay waiting until next year. I really want Diablo 3 on that thing.
Glad you’re digging DQXI. I keep hearing the music is awful, which is surprising since the series always has good stuff going there.
We’re just about to sail off to Skellige after finishing off most of Novigrad.

The first few hours of Let’s Go is a complete slog. After the Cerulean City things got better and after I reached Lavender Town it finally started feeling like a real Pokemon game. I don’t like the catching mechanic. I shouldn’t have to catch 100 gravelers to level up my team because battles give very little xp. You need to get a chain going to get more xp and level up fast. I’m glad I bought the game because it gave me that Pokemon fix. It’s a good game imo just not the best Pokemon game out there.
DQXI could potentially steal GOTY for me. It’s that good. The soundtrack is the only thing holding it back. It doesn’t match what’s going on in the game and it’s really loud too. Music is difficult to judge though because everyone has different tastes in what they think sound good so the best thing would be for you to listen to some tracks on Youtube or something and decide for yourself :).
I love Skellige. The music, Yennefer, and finally finding Ciri. It’s so perfect :).

I hear Let’s Go is fine, but not a *great* Pokemon game. That works for me right now. I’m not ready for a super deep, min/max Pokemon just yet lol. I got Pikachu for Christmas, so now I play the waiting game.

I hope you enjoy it more than I did. It’s a 6-7/10 game for me. It’s the only game I won’t play more than once and that disappoints me :(

Awaiting the reviews! I’m behind this week as between the snow, catching up on errands, and other adulting I have not had the time to play much this week. I am playing some more of the Insurgency Sandstorm beta this weekend a bit as NWI has posted a massive update, and a couple of micro updates over the last week, and a half. So I hope to see how well things are coming along. I also hope to get in some time with some of my 2600 pickups. Nabbed a good number over the last couple of months.

Thanks. I’ll probably be reviewing some of them shortly. I did a retro review of Demon Attack. But the next one will be a decidedly rare one. The question is which one? Hmmm……….

I’m playing Pokémon Go on Switch. Trying to use my Nintendo system more because Sony’s censorship ways is starting to piss me off.

I’m playing an augmented reality game that I started last weekend, it’s called “Work”. You take a Saturday and you go do the same stuff you at your real job the previous five days. I know it sounds boring but in this simulation none of you co-workers are there, so at least it’s quieter.
Seriously though, you can’t go wrong with Mass Effect. I own the trilogy on three platforms and have played through Andromeda on both consoles.
If I get any game time it will be spent in Red Dead 2. Here’s hoping.

I’ve played through the ME and Dragon Age games so many times and they’re always just as good as the first time around. Looking forward to my next Andromeda playthrough too.

At times I love RDR2 and other times I hate it. The game has a lot to it but there are times it is too much. 25+ hours into the game I am 59% on the story and 50.5% on the overall game.

Woo! Witcher 3! I’m still slowly crawling my way through that game, haha. I’m doing a bunch of side quests and Witcher contracts before going back to the main story. It’s so much fun to get lost in this game :)

I’m level grinding in Octopath Traveler on my way to do the actual end of the game. I’ve found it’s really easy to do while watching a Let’s Play of Silent Hill Origins, which I’ really enjoying. I don’t know what I’m going to watch after this. It’s not longer horror time, but I may still check out Clock Tower 3.

Cry’s Clock Tower 3 LP is maybe my favorite. It’s hilarious.

I couldn’t get into it! Once he realized it was a magical girl story I kind of checked out lol.
Don’t get me wrong it was hysterical and the little things he adds in crack me up, but I may just not be in the mood for it right now.I started watching his Stories Untold though and hoooooly shit. I’ve seen the first two and they’re both amazing. I love the twists at the end.

Stories Untold was SO GOOD. Ah well about CT3, though! Can’t win em all! If you’re ever looking for a longer LP to dig into, his LP of Legend of Dragoon is really good. So is Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii (which is looooooong).

Omg it really is. I have one more video to watch. I like how it’s all tied together. I get to try to figure out what the hell is going on.
I can see CT3’s appeal and the graphics are gorgeous. I’m always torn with RPGs because sometimes I want to play them myself but Legend of Dragoon is one I think might be trouble to find. I definitely want to play Xenoblade Chronicles eventually. I’m currently watching Oliz play Golden Sun, which I’d never heard of before. It just looked interesting and I’m enjoying it.

If you have a PS3, PSTV, or Vita (I think I recall you buying a Vita!) you can buy Legend of Dragoon digitally as a PSOne Classic. Getting it on the Vita requires a PS3, though. It’s one of the games that doesn’t “work” on Vita, but… it does. Sony just won’t let you download it to your Vita manually. You have to download it on your PS3, hook your Vita up to the console with its USB cable, and transfer the downloaded file to the Vita. Works just fine.
I never got around to Golden Sun on GBA but I did get a free digital copy on Wii U’s virtual console through some coin promotion. Looks neat!

Oh that’s so weird. I have a PS3 and a Vita! I haven’t heard of PSTV. I’ve been wanting to play Legend of Dragoon for a few years now.
I completely forgot I had Golden Sun on my backlog when I started watching it. I like the battle system! It’s a little different from what I’m used to, but I like figuring stuff like that out. It almost reminds me of FFVIII’s Junction system, but I’d have a better take on it if I were actually playing it.

PSTV is a neat little microconsole that plugs into your HDMI port and it’s essentially a Vita without touch controls. You can play a bunch of digital PSP and PS1 classics, as well as a laundry list of Vita games. It’s nice!
