It’s been a while since I’ve updated here, having fully transitioned into writing my reviews over at The Well-Red Mage last December. Mental health is a tricky mistress, though, and after taking a few months away from all of this to take care of my stupid brain and its chemical imbalance I just… lost the desire to write. At all, really.
Writing was a hobby that I clearly enjoyed, having run this solo project called Cheap Boss Attack since 2011 and many World of Warcraft blogs prior to that, but depression has a way of making you lose interest in the things you love.
During the hiatus, I made it a priority to play through the games I enjoyed or have been putting off for a while — namely Link’s Awakening DX, Ocarina of Time 3D, Final Fantasy VI, Crusader of Centy, Persona 4 Golden, Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2, Earthbound, and plenty others. I also got super addicted to Pokemon Go, so feel free to add me!
It was good for the soul.
I’ve been getting the itch to write again, though, so here we are! While I do plan on posting any sort of lengthy review at TWRM, I wanted to come back here to CBA and use it more like a blog than a website.
What does that mean?
Basically, smaller (and more frequent) updates to whatever it is I’m playing, or review-type posts that aren’t the long-form beasts TWRM is known for. Just more bite-sized content, really.
As for what I have in the pipeline, I’ll have posts covering my time with the supernatural visual novels WorldEnd Syndrome and Our World is Ended. My Freakin’ Weekend posts will return every Friday evening too. With October being horror month (my jam) I’d like to throw together some game and movie recommendations for anyone looking for something to do, which fits the “bite-sized content” motif I’m going for.
We’ll see how it goes from here, but I really just wanted this post to be a “welcome back” kind of thing. I don’t expect anyone to stick around after such a long hiatus, and I’ve apologized to every publisher that sent review keys my way at the worst possible time, but here I am. Let’s have fun again.
Oh, and we adopted a stray pupper and named him Chavo. He’s a blackmouth cur and a bit of an asshole, but we love him.

Welcome back! You gotta do you so no worries. I’m excited to see what you’re up to now. I’m adding you on Pokemon Go. I haven’t been super active this last month but I’ll hopefully get better at it soon. My obsession with it comes and goes in waves currently. (My husband also got me addicted to Empires and Puzzles on my phone.)

Thank you! I live in the middle of nowhere so it’s hard to get enough gifts to hand out to everyone, but I try! I had a similar obsession with Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, where it was the only game I played for weeks and then… stopped.
He’s a cutie, for sure, but also a handful lol. He’s a hunting breed so he has infinite energy in a household of fatigued people.

I was super excited to see this notification. Depression sucks though depression naps are kinda cool, maybe? If you have time to sleep all day…which I really don’t lol. I actually DNF’d my playthrough of FFVI. I don’t know if that’s lack of interest due to the fore mentioned or me just not being in the mood, but I can still write my review of it, and it’s not like I don’t know the story hand and foot. I’m in the later stages of Etrian Odyssey Untold after defeating the final boss. There’s still a lot of game, exploration, and side quests left.

I think FFVI and many other SNES/Genesis rpgs hold up story wise but the random encounter rates can get super infuriating lol. I played through FF1 and the encounter rates alone almost made me rage quit.

They really do, and I have nothing but love for it. I think it’s just because I know the game and story so well, though I DID get some fresh insights during this re-playthrough. I think if it were on a handheld I’d probably be more inclined to finish it. I just seem to have more of an affinity towards those because they’re so convenient.
Dude FF1 is freaking BRUTAL. I messed up badly when I first started that and didn’t realize I had to make sure there was an E next to my stuff for it to be equipped, plus you start out with NOTHING and have to grind from the get go. I’m glad modern RPGs have abandoned that idea. FFIV is still pretty hard with a high encounter rate, but the story makes it worth it.
