Friday! Video games! Let’s talk!
It’s the first Friday of October and normally I’d be basking in the brisk fall breeze, enjoying a hot coffee, but it’s 97 degrees here in South Carolina. Fucking woof.
Anyway, what’s on your gaming agenda this weekend?
On deck for me we have…
WorldEnd Syndrome
This visual novel puts you in the shoes of a high school student who just relocated to Mihate Town and lives in his uncle’s mansion with his distant cousin. It’s part slice-of-life relationship building and part supernatural mystery, as Mihate Town is believed to be revisited by the murderous deceased every 100 years. Guess what time it is?
The prologue ran me about 2 hours and ends with a giant “what the fuck?” moment where most of the cast dies after their August summer break. There are 5 routes in all, each focusing on your relationship with the game’s various characters (all of which are fantastic) during that month and potentially alters the outcome. Like most visual novels, it’s a lot of story beats and dialogue prompts, so it’s easy to get side-tracked during a route without a guide handy. I’ve been using one so I don’t miss out on anything.
This’ll be my main game this weekend, but just in case I finish it up…
AI: The Somnium Files
This is Spike Chunsoft’s newest adventure game, which also happens to be a mystery visual novel focusing on serial murders. Unlike WorldEnd Syndrome, though, you actually investigate the murders by jacking into people’s memories with the help of an A.I. companion.
I’m not sure what to expect here, but some of my friends on Twitter seem to be enjoying it quite a bit.
I’ll have more to say once I actually play it myself, so hopefully by next weekend.

Cheap Boss Attack 
Blast Wind and Panzer Dragoon on the Saturn. And of course regularly playing Black Desert Online, MU Legend and League of Legends, might even get back into Neverwinter. Currently I would like to get into Dungeons and Dragons, the idea of playing a campaign with some friends sounds appealing to me. Always been an aficionado of good fantasy and myth.

I’ve always wanted to play D&D but never had anyone locally to do so. Hopefully that changes at some point in the future.
I’m a big fan of Neverwinter, though I guess not big enough since I haven’t played in a little over a year. I do miss playing my Control Wizard.
I love me some Saturn too, especially Panzer Dragoon. Sounds like a solid weekend!

First of all, welcome back my friend. I just finished up Shadow Runner 2 which was…. a game, I guess. I tried Enter the Gungeon but it just wasn’t for me. Then for some reason I decided to try Destiny 2 on Xbox. Why I have the strange compulsion to not even import my characters from PS4 and start fresh just to see what the on-boarding process is I don’t know.

Thanks, Paul! I really liked Enter the Gungeon on Switch when I first got it and played it for a few days, but haven’t touched it since. Roguelikes just aren’t my jam, I don’t think, and Risk of Rain is the only one I regularly seem to go back to.
Man, I haven’t played D2 since the month it launched lol. I don’t have PS Plus or XBL Gold, though, so I don’t know when or if I’d ever give it another go.

I enjoyed World End Syndrome, although I would recommend playing it with a guide. Without one you might end up having to replay many times to get the endings. AI should be good, as I believe it is made by the person responsible for 999. This weekend I will play Link’s Awakening.

That’s what I’m doing, yeah. I got to a point in World End where nothing was changing, so I looked up a guide and apparently you have to play the same first few days three or four times before it lets you proceed with the fourth route. I never would have figured that out on my own. Otherwise, though, I’m enjoying myself.
Link’s Awakening is my favorite Zelda, but since I just played through the DX version last month I’m holding off on the remake until maybe Christmas. How are you liking it so far?

I am enjoying the game. Only need to finish one more dungeon. It’s nice having extra buttons for items. When I played it on Gameboy I constantly had to pause the game to switch my inventory.

Yeahhhhh, I found that similarly handy playing Ocarina of Time 3D (where it let you map two additional items to the touch screen).
Does the remake have the GBC Link’s Awakening DX version’s exclusive “color dungeon”?

Yes the game has the color dungeon, extra seashells to find and a design a dungeon side quest.

I’m being a mega-nerd and literally writing up an outline for how to beat this optional boss in Etrian Odyssey Untold. I keep getting beaten but I get closer each time. I’m also watching Olizandri Let’s Play the Phoenix Wright Trilogy because I found out he did it and I wanted to sit through it again.

I’ve always wanted to check out the Phoenix Wright stuff. Seems up my alley, like a less adult version of Danganronpa.

Omg since you already like visual novels, I think you’d enjoy PW. It’s REALLY good. The story telling is solid; each case builds off the other, the characters are zany, but well rounded and so likable. I know the trilogy is on the Switch right now. I have one of the side games for the 3DS and I need to play the others.

Have you looked into Danganronpa? It seems pretty similar, but super it’s basically kids locked in a high school and forced to murder each other without getting caught. Someone dies each chapter and you have to do that whole detective interrogation and courtroom thing PW has.

I played a demo of it and liked it! I just haven’t gotten around to buying it yet. I’m on such a PW kick I just bought the anime lol.
