It’s the Freakin’ Weekend! What Are You Playing?

Another Friday in self-isolation, yeah? What’s on your plate this weekend?

For me…

seabed2

SeaBed (Switch)

This immaculately-written visual novel has become my current obsession. It focuses on the life of a woman experiencing hallucinations of her former lover, who mysteriously disappeared during a vacation overseas. The story is told nonchronologically, so it’s a treat piecing it all together and determining what’s real and what isn’t.

I’ll be reviewing this in full when it’s all over, but for now, I’ll just say “play this fucking game” if you enjoy visual novels. It’s extraordinary.

Period Cube: Shackles of Amadeus (Vita)

Another visual novel, this otome is basically Sword Art Online and all sorts of messed up. You play as a girl named Kuzuha whose brother hasn’t been heard from in a while, so you head on over to his apartment with one of your childhood mutual friends. He’s nowhere to be found. This friend has been avidly playing an MMORPG called Arcadia with Kuzuha’s brother, which ends up sucking them into the game itself upon logging into the mysterious World V on a nearby laptop. Her friend shows her the ropes, helps her create a character, and then the proverbial shit hits the fan — they’re stuck in this ever-crumbling world until someone reaches the final room and touches a holy artifact.

Like I said, very Sword Art Online.

There are quite a few players in Arcadia, all dudes (of course), and you can choose who to befriend, build a relationship with, and ultimately save everyone else alongside. That’s the good ending. Then there are the bad ones, which are incredibly fucked up. Those are my jam.

langrisser

Langrisser I & II (PS4)

This recent remake/remaster of the first two strategy RPGs in the Langrisser series just arrived in my inbox a few hours ago, so I’m not quite sure what to expect. I’ve always heard of it explained as a rival to Fire Emblem, which is up my alley. We’ll see.

What about you, folks? What’s on your gaming agenda this weekend while locked away safely inside your home?

  1. I got a free copy of Langrisser too. It’s good but It’s no near as good as Fire Emblem. It’s still really enjoyable though and does have some neat customization in terms of character classes and stuff. They’re good games. I hope you enjoy them.

I finished playing through Disaster Report 4 (another review copy) and I actually didn’t enjoy it that much. I wish I could tell you why, but I can’t until the 31st :(.

I think I’ll be focused on grinding my new toon to 60 in Black Desert Online. I’ve been addicted to it for the last two weeks or so. I also just started another run in Pokemon Shield and I’m excited about jumping back into that. There’s also Suge 2 on Game Pass and that’s my jam.

    1. Nice! Disaster Report always looks weird, which is in my wheelhouse. Looking forward to your review.

Game Pass keeps adding all of this rad stuff, man. I still haven’t gotten around to Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet, the new Ori, or Indivisible.

  2. I’m on the last case of AA: Spirit of Justice and well into FFVIII while I concurrently watch a Let’s Play of it. My hubs just bought a bunch of Halo titles off of Steam because apparently they’re all there now. They were like $30, which I think it totally acceptable (he was reluctant since he’s laid off, but you can’t apply to jobs all day and tbh I want him to play more stuff than Destiny or Borderlands 3 since he spends him time yelling at those games lol). Of course I’m waiting for this upcoming Friday. I’m off because banks are closed so as long as the mail is still working (which is highly suspect) I know what I’ll be doing all day.

      1. Yuuuup, it’s a big deal. I just found out about it from the hubs. I’ve seen some of the movies and read a bit of the lore, and it’s REALLY interesting. I should do a legit wiki crawl on it sometime. I think I looked it up years ago and it was fascinating.
