Press X to Weekend: Not Much Actual Gaming?

Due to being newly diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, I’ve been going through some dietary changes to help reverse the damage. Unfortunately, it’s been giving me some intense headaches and borderline migraines for nearly the entire week. End me.

On the plus side, I get to drink more coffee!

The only game I’ve played all week is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist on the Genesis, but what a game. Even as a Sega kid I’ll always admit that Turtles in Time on SNES is the superior offering, but it’s not a competition. Hyperstone Heist has similar gameplay, borrows some of the levels and boss fights, but it’s still a great beat-em-up.

It also does some work with Sega’s FM sound chip and has some of my favorite music on the console. If you dug TMNT The Arcade Game and Turtles in Time, then check it out. A lot of people slept on it since they were released around the same time.

I started a replay of Shining Force last weekend but that’s about when the headaches kicked in. Maybe I’ll hit up a few battles later today if I’m feeling up to it.

I’ve really just been in the mood for a meaty JRPG and I tried getting back into Persona 5 Royal, but I guess I’m not feeling up to something THAT big. I’ve already beaten (and loved) the original version of Persona 5 and that took me 125 hours. I’m still on the fence about sticking with it right now and leaning more toward just focusing on Shining Force.

Xbox has added some neat stuff to Game Pass lately, but nothing I’m immediately in the mood for. I know I’ll dig Unsighted, Echo Generation, Moonglow Bay, and Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition, but I’m in a retro phase right now. I haven’t played Forza Horizon 5 much lately either. I’M IN A SLUMP! AHH!

Similar to my recent 15 NES Games I Want to Play in 2022 article, I’m in the process of writing up a list for the Genesis, Saturn, SNES, and PS1. I may not finish them all before the year is up, but that’s fine.

That about does it for me, though. My mood has been sour due to stress and anxiety and when I get that way it’s just hard to concentrate on literally anything.

What about you all? Any big gaming plans this weekend?

  1. Oh shit dude…that sucks :( I’m glad you were diagnosed though…like they caught it hopefully early and you can do something about it. Scary AF though. It really does go to show how you can do things “right” and still get sick. So much of health is luck of the draw e.g. my hubs knew he was going to wind up diabetic with two parents and four grandparents with it, meanwhile my fat, sweet happy ass has consistently low/regular blood sugar. Life is profoundly unfair.

I haven’t been playing much either and I don’t know what it is. I feel like a meaty JRPG, too, but for some reason I just can’t muster up the energy. I blame the fact Tales of Berseria isn’t convenniently available on my Switch and I can’t get the PS4 to remote to my Vita. Though I am currently in the posession of Persona 4 Golden now lol so I could play that directly on Vita. I’ve been wanting to buy Voice of Cards, too, the new card based RPG from Square.

My concentration is shit, too. It’s like hm is it general depression or seasonal depression because it literally gets dark at 4 happening today? Spin the wheel! Weird thing is I LIKE the dark, but I guess my mood doesn’t? It makes no damn sense.

    1. One of my friends was an alcoholic and only ate fast food multiple times a day for a decade, but never gained weight or had health issues related to his liver. Seriously, how do people get that lucky? I don’t drink, do drugs, I’ve never smoked in my life, but I can’t catch a break lol. Stupid genetics.

I added Voice of Cards to my Switch wishlist along with Dungeon Encounters. Both seem neat.

My mental health seems to be better when I’m on third shift hours and I’m not sure why lol. I think my brain just enjoys the quiet? I tend to have my worst mental health days during the summer because I hate heat and humidity, which explains my severe vitamin D deficiency lol.

      1. Look, we could all eat the exact same diet and follow the exact same exercise program and some of us would still be fluffy and jolly lol. I’m trying to concentrate more on what my body can do as opposed to what it looks like, but it’s hard. I’ve struggled with ED pretty much my whole life and yo-yo dieting, which is honestly one of the worst things. One of my goals this year is to be able to walk a mile again, since I’m at the point now where my back is so bad I can’t stand for long. I have a desk elliptical I use, and the hilarious thing is my hubs got it for me for my birthday because I asked him to specifically, and his mom and sisiter yelled at him lol. It’s like no, I WANTED this.

One of my friends is 6’8″ and a literal stick, and he has every single vice under the sun. I’m like bitch…

Voice of Cards was phenomenal. I think it’s on sale now for $23.99 from $39.99 maybe? I got a $70 Nintendo gift card that I’ve already spent half of with Voice of Cards. Oh! I found those Person Q games, too! They’re like $7 a piece so I might just pick them up. I demoed Yo-Kai Watch 1 and 2, but I’m a little on the fence. They were fun, but I might wait until they’re on sale.

I JUST saw a post about this. Imma send it to you on the Twit in a second. I’m literally allergic to the sun AND anemic, sooooo clearly a vampire :D I also hate the sun. It’s too damn bright! I didn’t figure this out until I started wearing contacts. Like why didn’t anyone tell me the sun was so GD bright??? I’ve been wearing transition lenses for most of my life so I have no idea it was this bad.
